Today has been a day of barrowing load after load of manure onto our plots. Lots of the stuff. We are fortunate as here on the farm there is a constant supply of lovely well rotted manure on hand. So after asking 'the Farmer' sweetly if he would be kind enough to use the digger with it's bucket on to scoop up a load of this black gold and dump it over the fence and somewhere near to our plots, we spent the rest of the day shovelling and barrowing a small mountain of the stuff. Whilst it has been hard work it will pay dividends come next spring and the 2011 growing season and our blooms will reap the benefits.
On the farm front the ploughing is finished. Hurrah! And only one field of winter beans left to sow. Then next week it is time for the annual TB testing of the cattle herd. This is a stressfull time for everyone involved: the cows and calves, the bulls, the farmer, and the vet/s. So, early next week all the cattle will have a small injection of sorts (a bit like the BCG injection that most of us in the UK have at school when we're about 13/14,) then 3 days later the vet/s come back and check the entire herd to see if any of them have 'reacted.' The 'reading' day is a nail biting and nerve racking time. If you'd like to know more about Bovine TB then please visit the DEFRA site
On that happy note..... I'd just like to share with you a few photos taken this week. Most of them are the view from the flower plots and/or scenes from around the farm.
