One pumpkin and some seasonal Autumn flowers

Morning Bloomers,

Halloween is nearly upon us and the rain is pouring down.  So, here in the Bloomers polytunnel we had a little competition between ourselves yesterday afternoon... Lets decorate a pumpkin!   With Chrysanthemums in full bloom and the hedgerows still laden with glorious Rosehips we gathered up some blooms and got on with pumpkin carving.

Now, pumpkin carving is not our area of expertise, so we just chopped the top off and carved a hallow into which we placed the flowers and finds from the hedgerows.

Here is the pumpkin sitting on the windowsill in the Bloomers HQ.

Oh, and if anyone has a good tasty recipe for anything pumpkin then please drop me a line here .  Over the years I've tried most things and it's only been fit for the bin.  Maybe pumpkin is just not my thing.

As it is still raining, today will be a day spent in the warmth of the old polytunnel or one of the sheds.  We'll be busy cleaning and tidying up the place after a hectic summer growing season.  Cleaning and disinfecting the ever expanding mountain of plant pots and sorting and stacking them into sizes so when spring comes along everything will be ready to use.  And not forgetting the pile of canes and twig supports that are trying to trip everyone up at any and every opportunity.

Once the clouds disappear and we have a few bright clear days we will be busy erecting the new polytunnel.  Then we have the problem of sheeting the new tunnel - November in Wales is probably not the best time to be working with a piece of sheeting which is about the size of a house.  When 'the farmer' was sheeting the silage pit I'm surprised no one was whisked away up the hill whilst holding onto a giant silage sheet kite!

So if anyone fancies being a human weight to help anchor the sheet down whilst we try and drag it over the polytunnel frame, then your help is most welcome!  Lots of lovely cake and copious cups of tea will be provided and once the job is done there will be a wee celebratory drink inside the new polytunnel.

We will be posting plenty of photos of the build.

It looks like the rain has turned into a fine drizzle so I think it's time to venture out and see how things are going .

Keep on Blooming

Cathy
